Welcome to The Westwood Volunteer Fire Department . We are located in Boyd County Kentucky and serve a population of around 5500 residence and another 1500 workers in various types of industry and businesses.
The Department was organized in 1949 by several residence that had lost there homes to fire. This was the first Volunteer Department outside of a city limits in Boyd County Kentucky. It is believed that the first meeting took place on the steps of the Fairview Schools that is located on Main Street. The first Chief was Joe Johnson and his Assistant Chief was James J Panchot. Chief Johnson served for several years before moving and being involved in organizing at least two other departments in the area.
James Panchot became the second Chief and served in this capacity for over twenty years retiring in 1979. The current fire station has been dedicated in his honor and a plaque has been placed on the front of the station the reads " J.J. Panchot Fire Station"

The Department currently has four class A pumpers, two tankers, and a command vehicle. There are 34 active Volunteers responding to over 310 calls for service a year.
